Glutamine - Stress Relief Products

Glutamine is the most abundant amino acid in the human body. It is a non-essential amino acid, which means that the body can manufacture its own supply by converting other amino acids. However, during times of physical stress and exertion our bodies can’t always produce enough.
Studies have shown that regular supplementation with Glutamine can minimise the breakdown of muscle, a process known as catabolism and improve protein metabolism.

What is Glutamine?
Glutamine is the most abundant amino acid in the human body. It is a non-essential amino acid which means that the body can manufacture its own supply by converting other amino acids. Glutamine is mainly used by the small intestine, kidneys and the immune system. It helps prevent the breakdown of muscle tissue, aids recovery from exercise, boosts the immune system and aids the process by which muscles store energy.
What can Glutamine do for me?
- Glutamine is the most common amino acid found in muscles – over 61% of skeletal muscle is Glutamine. Over 19% of Glutamine consists of nitrogen making it the primary form of transport of nitrogen into muscles. During intense training, Glutamine levels can become low which can greatly reduce strength, stamina and recovery times.
- After such strenuous activity it could take up to 6 days for Glutamine levels to return to normal and this could be detrimental to muscle mass as Glutamine plays a key role in protein synthesis.
- Studies have shown that regular supplementation with Glutamine can minimise the breakdown of muscle, a process known as catabolism and improve protein metabolism.
- Regular supplementation with Glutamine also increases the body’s natural ability to secrete human growth hormone or HGH. HGH is produced in the pituitary gland and is responsible for the growth and formation of bone and muscle tissue, it promotes the repair of damaged DNA within cells and encourages regular cell division. HGH levels are at their highest during childhood and puberty before going into a steep decline from the age of 30 onwards. However supplementation with Glutamine can help increase HGH levels making it easier to metabolise body fat and build healthy new muscle.
- The majority of the body’s Glutamine supply is used by the small intestine. It absorbs most of the vital vitamins and minerals needed to boost the immune system and help us stay fit and healthy.
- As Glutamine levels can become severely dimished after a workout, taking up to 6 days to replenish, it is advisable to take a Glutamine supplement to boost the immune system, preventing illness and infection that could affect your training programme.
